Creation of the Bar

In late 1976, Emmett Haskin began selling homemade moonshine and other assorted liquors out of a beaten up cart, in a space he had staked out for himself opposite the Bearmoon Livery Stable – at the time the only structure for miles around.

Although he had intended to move on as soon as his supplies ran dry, the constant stream of travellers between Virginia City and Sacramento meant that Haskin never wanted either for customers or new stock. With the wind in his sales, the entrepreneurial salesman scraped together enough money and materials to build Haskin’s – providing spirits, rooms and entertainment to road weary travellers.
